Keeper of the Scales
The emergent personality of the primordial god The Upheaver, also called the Divine Adjudicator, seeks to keep all powers in Creation in check in order to prevent its destruction – accidental or otherwise.
The Keeper of the Scales is commonly depicted as a tall figure concealed in voluminous hooded robes of a neutral grey that does not shift with illumination, nor does the Keeper cast a shadow of any kind. The Keeper is of explicitly indeterminate sex and gender, as well as of indeterminate race – although it is accepted that various cultures will impose their own prejudices on their vision of the Keeper, clergy are accepted to refrain from such presumption.
In the right hand The Keeper of the Scales holds aloft the Leaden Scales that measure cosmic balance, while in its left, upon its open, upturned palm, there is the Everburning Candle whose flame sheds neither light nor heat but indicates the ebb and flow of power with its flickering. A flame above a scales is the Keeper’s most common symbol, and is given the stylized form of a dragon – the “Wyrm of Equilibrium” – when the deity’s relationship with the Great Sea Wyrm is emphasized.
